New women’s collection reflects a strong sense of refined, modern glamour while the men’s range is designed for the man who understands that the old codes of masculine dress have been cracked by 21st reality
Johannesburg, Thursday September 21st 2017 - Jimmy Choo, the luxury accessories brand with shoes at its heart, unveils its new Autumn Winter 2017 Collection for men and women at its plush Jimmy Choo Boutique at Sandton City’s Diamond Walk on Thursday September 21st.
For the women’s range, the iconic brand looked within to conjure a collection that encapsulates the recurring theme of duality that is at the heart of the brand. That spirit is the embodiment of Yin and Yang, tough but soft, feminine and powerful; she is a woman with an innate confidence.
The collection reflects a strong sense of refined, modern glamour in which the twin pillars of rebel and romance play against each other in visual melodies defined by fur pom-pom, metallic suede, painted snakeskin, studded hardware and leopard print.
Creative director Sandra Choi says she looked back to the formative years of the brand, founded 21 years ago in London at the height of the city’s cool Britannia indie-led ‘90s cultural boom, to inform the range.
“This season is a particularly pure expression of Jimmy Choo. We’ve focused on the codes that define us; the confidence, the sexiness, the playfulness and the glamour employed with signature leopard and studs in surprising manifestations. But as well as looking back we look forward by using unexpected modern fabrications that combine lightness with a sensually glossy finish lending some of the pieces a sci-fi sleekness. The fundamental essence of Jimmy Choo lies in its attitude blended with beauty and this season has it in abundance.”
Dynamic silhouettes create fresh perspectives; heels explore sturdier proportions and flats are presented in iterations that range from elegant pointy toes to chunky soled boots realised in shades of mink, fire, moonstone, bottle green, storm and vino.
Meanwhile, for men, Jimmy Choo presents a suite of carefully calibrated footwear that challenges convention for Autumn/Winter 2017.
This is a collection that revels in contrast and idiosyncrasy.
British Punk Rock band The Clash and the concept of clashing aesthetics serve as inspirations, delivering surprising blends of sartorial English eccentricity with a pinch of Punk rock attitude.
Classic styles are rebuilt in radical new fabrications. Sneakers are presented in traditional corduroy and formal lace ups are injected with star studded attitude. Orthodox silhouettes are given new life via irreverent detail. It’s footwear as the foundation for a modern mode of dressing for style arbitrators.
“The men who stood out in the past were those who had the courage to break rules: to find something they believed in and represent it. I was inspired by looking closely at The Clash, where their style codes are a fusion of traditional English gent with Punk attitude. This collection is ammunition for men who have their own point of view - raw material for self-expression in a world where individualism is the only style rule to abide by,” explains Sandra Choi, Creative Director.
From a satchel whose silhouette is inspired by the mail bag Choi’s grandfather used to deliver post in Hong Kong, through to cutting edge knit-sock sneakers, Autumn/Winter’s frame of reference roams far and wide.
Its focus, though, is tight - these are accessories for the now.
