(Monday October 3rd, Johannesburg) - Bollywood comes to Sandton this November with the arrival of The Sunflower Fund’s 2016 annual banquet.
Taking place on November 12th at the Hilton Hotel, Sandton, the event aims to raise funds in order to pay for the initial test cost for donors to register on the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR).
Funnyman Nicholas Goliath, of Goliath and Goliath fame, will be your host for the event and there will be fantastic performances that will take your breath away.
This event is a celebration of the lives of many patients who have suffered or are still suffering from leukaemia and other blood disorders.
“We are celebrating hope,” says The Sunflower Fund’s Gauteng Region Manager, Shelby Zimmerman. “We have timed the event to coincide with the start of the annual year-end function season – offering an amazing opportunity to kick off your festivities and support our life-saving cause, as well.”
Invite your friends, family and colleagues for a sensational Bollywood experience.
Tickets cost R1000 per person or R10 000 per table of 10.
Increasing the number of donors listed on the SABMR offers hope to the hundreds of South Africans with blood diseases whose only chance of survival is a stem cell transplant.
The Sunflower Fund relies solely on financial assistance from its dedicated funders and through funds raised through initiatives such as the Sunflower Fund Annual Banquet.
Funds raised from the annual banquet will enable the fund to create awareness, educate and recruit stem cell donors to increase the number of people registered on the South African Bone Marrow Registry, thereby significantly improving patients’ prospects of finding matching stem cell donors.
It takes only two test tubes of blood to become registered as a stem cell donor but the tissue typing of each sample at the required molecular (DNA) level is expensive, costing about R2 000 per test.
Once the blood samples have been analysed, each individual’s genetic information is stores on the SABMR’s searchable database.
There are currently over 71 000 donors on the SABMR.
